Clockwise from the upper left corner: Terminator 2: Judgment Day; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves; The Silence of the Lambs; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Center: Backdraft.

1991 was a bit of a down year at the box office, but it still did produce its fair share of successful, and even iconic, films. Terminator 2: Judgment Day  ruled the box office, while The Silence of the Lambs swept all the major awards at the Oscars. Disney's Beauty and the Beast was the top-earning animated feature while City Slickers was the top-earning comedy.
